Philip Deslippe

Philip Deslippe is a PhD candidate in the Department of Religious Studies at the University of California, Santa Barbara with a focus on Asian, metaphysical, and marginal religious traditions in modern America. He has written articles for several academic journals and for popular magazines. He has given talks and lectures in over a dozen countries and his research has been translated into nine languages.

Learning Objectives

  • Participants will be able to explain why face-gazing meditations produce unusual perceptual experiences and how these are documented in scientific studies.

  • Participants will be able to analyze how practitioners interpret and assign significance to such experiences within the context of 3HO and Yogi Bhajan’s teachings.

  • Develop critical thinking skills to analyse some of the ethical issues involved in the development and application of these ideas.
