Course Description

Willoughby Britton and Jared Lindahl discuss the eleven criteria meditation practitioners and meditation teachers in the VCE study used to differentiate normal meditation challenges that are "part of the path" from potentially concerning states warranting intervention.

  • Understand how meditation-related challenges are appraised across a range of Buddhist contexts.

  • Consider the criteria used by meditation teachers and clinicians for determining when additional intervention is warranted.

  • Situate the appraisal of meditation-related challenges in multiple cultural contexts and a person-centered approach to care.

Dr. Willoughby Britton is founder of Cheetah House and director of the Clinical and Affective Neuroscience Lab at Brown University.

Jared Lindahl, Ph.D.

Dr. Jared Lindahl has been leading the data collection, analysis, and writing of papers for the Varieties of Contemplative Experience study since 2014.
